SCORPIONS IN LAS VEGAS

There are two scorpion species that plague the greater Las Vegas area from Henderson to Centennial Hills.

The ARIZONA BARK SCORPION is venomous and can be dangerous to anyone that has a reaction to their sting – which can be women, men, old, and young - those in poor health and or have allergies will be affected more strongly. Arizona Bark Scorpions are not native to Nevada and may have originally been transferred to Nevada via palm trees and other landscaping.

All scorpions share certain characteristics – a crablike appearance, four pairs of legs, a pair of pincers and a long segmented tail that curls up with a stinger on the end.Scorpions are nocturnal and hide during the day. Some scorpions species will hide under rocks, logs and in cracks, other species will dig and hide in burrows.

They primarily reproduce during the Spring and Fall – so you can expect to see more scorpions during these seasons. There are over 1700 individual species – with as many as 25 species that are venomous to humans. Scorpions live between 5 and 25 years and grow to be as large as 5 inches in length.

If you do find an infestation of scorpions you should call a licensed professional pest management company to evaluate and treat the problem.
